Valve has finally gone and done it - the first major update for Team Fortress 2 has now been released and should be automatically downloading itself to Steam accounts everywhere.

The update is a pretty big one and introduces a few new elements to the multiplayer game we all know and love, including new gameplay modes, weapons and achievements for the Medic class.

The new gameplay mode is perhaps the most fundamental update; the new Gold Rush mode pits two teams against each other as they battle over a gold-filled mine cart. One team must push the cart through the map, while the other must hinder the progress of the other team and keep the cart under control.

There's only one map available for the Gold Rush mode at the moment, but given how quickly new maps are being made by the community that won't be a problem for long.

The update also introduces new weapons and achievements for the medic class, with the two being intrinsically tied together. Players can now upgrade weaponry over time by earning 12, 24 or all 36 of the all new Medic achievements. The new weapons are called the Blutsauger, Kritzkrieg and Ubersaw.
