World of Tanks developer Wargaming.net has announced a follow-up to its wildly popular artillery MMO, called World of Warplanes. It's about planes.

Announced over the course of E3 2011, World of Warplanes will allow players access to planes spanning from the 1930s to the 1950s.

As was the case with World of Tanks, World of Warplanes will be a free to play MMO where players are divided into opposing teams and fight using authentic WW2 vehicles.

'We are proud to be able to develop another high quality Free to Play game for the world’s gaming community,' said Wargaming.net CEO Victor Kislyi.

'World of Tanks has been extremely succesful and we look to bring the same high quality if not better to World of Warplanes.'
