Ubisoft has responded to rumours that began circulating late last week and which claimed that Rayman creator Michel Ancel had left the French developer after the formal cancellation of his new project Beyond Good and Evil 2.

The original Beyond Good and Evil was conceived and designed by Ancel, released in 2003 and is often considered to be a modern classic. It also made Games Ed Joe cry like a little girl.

Unfortunately the original, which tells the story of photo-journalist Jade as she investigates a government conspiracy and battles an alien invasion, didn't sell hugely well and the sequel has had a troubled history. The project was thought to have been cancelled until Ubisoft today confirmed that the game is still in development.

Speaking to Eurogamer, a Ubisoft spokesperson said that recent rumours were absolute rubbish - Michel Ancel is still working at Ubisoft and work on Beyond Good and Evil 2 continues.

Ubisoft did not offer any more information on the game however, simply saying that there were "no changes on the horizon" as far as development was concerned.

Two years since the original announcement at Ubidays, nothing has yet been seen of Beyond Good and Evil 2 except for a single teaser trailer and a leaked video of gameplay concepts.
