Ghostbusters: The Game details revealed

The announcement of a new Ghostbusters movie has got every geek on the planet quivering with pure, childlike joy and elation. It doesn't matter how cool or calm you think you are - the idea of a Ghostbusters game is surely going to rock your world. Envy the lucky folks at IGN Australia then, who got to go hands on with an early build of the game and came back with a few details.

First, the good news.

For one, both Harold Ramis (who played Egon) and Dan Ackroyd (who played Ray) who wrote the original films are signed on. The pair are apparently very interested in working to make a whole series of new Ghostbusters games.

The engine is also pretty swanky by all reports and allows all sorts of weird ghosts to be rendered beautifully in 1080p. The hands-on apparently feature ghosts made up of rapidly swirling piles of books, which sounds pretty cool to us.

Now, the bad news.

The major blow for gamers to suffer is that there's no campaign co-op at all because the developers figured it would mess with the story of the game, though I suppose their commitment to a good plot is a good point.

The cast has also been trimmed down a little bit and Dana, who was played by Sigourney Weaver, has been cut completely and replaced with a new female lead character. The developers have said that again, they couldn't find a way to re-integrate her into the story, but the general opinion is more along the lines that they either couldn't afford the actress or that she didn't want to be involved.
