With the North American release of FlatOut scheduled for today, the two publishers responsible for the distribution of the title have already indicated that a sequel is coming to the PlayStation 2, Xbox and PC in 2006.

The game will build on the success of the original, which is an over-the-top destructive racing game where players race around fully destructible tracks in one of sixteen fully customisable and upgradeable cars.

It is currently being developed by Finnish games developer, Bugbear Entertainment, who were name behind the original FlatOut. The title is jointly distributed by Vivendi Universal Games in North America, and by Empire Interactive across Europe.

Unlike the original, which was launched in two phases - November across Europe and today in North America, we believe that FlatOut 2 will be launched at the same time on both sides of the Atlantic.

If you haven't already played the original, we recommend getting hold of it - it's tremendous fun. We will bring you more details of the sequel as soon as we get them.

Played the original already? Are you looking forward to the sequel? Let us know!
