Nintendo has launched a new WiiWare channel called Check Mii Out (see what they did there?) which lets users create and vote on Miis created around a set theme.

The channel was launched just yesterday and is available to any online-connected users for free.

Check Mii Out is a 'social game' which is built around the avatar-creation system already present on the Wii. When users start the game they select a primary Mii to serve as the 'artisan', which serves as a signature for all other creations according to Joystiq. After an artisan is chosen players can head to either the Posting Plaza or the Contests area.

The Posting Plaza lets players look at a random selection of Miis from their area as well as the most popular Miis in the world. Players get a chance to rank Miis and can copy or import them to their own system. Players are also encouraged to post their own Miis for rating.

In the Contests Area, players have to build Miis around a specific theme and are given six days to come up with the best Mii the can. Then people vote, a winner is chosen and the whole thing goes round again.

The first and only contest at the moment is 'Mario without his cap', which is admittedly even less thrilling than it sounds.

As the Joystiq guys point out, the easiest way to get a feel for the channel is to see it in action - so check out this video if you're really that desperate to know how it all works. Then, when you're properly informed, you can drop your comments in the forums.
