Capcom has today unveiled Plunder, a new pirate-themed, real-time strategy game for PC, PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade.

The game is being developed by Certain Affinity, who you may know for having developed the Halo 2 Blastacular map pack - or who you may never have heard of depending on how big a Halo fanboy you are.

Plunder promises to be a swashbuckling little RTS, casting players as the captain of a pirate ship that can raid ports, attack other ships and capture entire towns. The game is said to be quite open and the only goal is to make as much money as possible.

The game will feature 25 challenges to work through, with seven other Pirate Alliances all battling for a share of the loot. Up to four players will be able to play on one console, but the game will have online support for up to eight players. The game will also come with level creation tools to help give Plunder lasting appeal.

The announcement is a little bizarre though, with Certain Affinity boss-man, Max Hoberman, saying that Plunder will go beyond the current generation of games, taking the adventure "from 3D to 6D", whatever that means.

"Cutting-edge hex-based environments make traditional games weak" added Hoberman. "If you only get to try one downloadable pirate action RTS this summer, check out Plunder."
