Award winning iPad game Badland is being remastered and re-released for consoles.

The distinctive shmup is being brought to Playstation 4, Playstation 3, Xbox One, Wii U, PC, Mac, Linux and PS Vita in spring this year.

As part of the game's overhaul, it is getting updated graphics, four times as much content as the original game had and reworked controls so that it plays with a control pad as opposed to touch screen interface. The original stages from the iOS version are also being 'carefully tuned' according to the developer, so as to make the most out of the new control scheme.

Badland's console version will support local multiplayer and will ship with 100 single player levels, 100 co-op levels and 27 four-player multiplayer levels.

For the conversion work, original developer Frogmind is getting some help from Blitworks to assist with adapting the title to consoles and Frozenbyte is chipping in with quality assurance, publishing and marketing support. Blitworks has had prior experience in translating Fez, Spelunky and Bastion to the Playstation from their original DirectX routes.

Badland was Apple's game of the year back in 2013 and generated a strong critical reception. Since its April 2013 launch, the game has been downloaded 20 million times.
