Epic has been tinkering with the iPhone as a games platform lately by the looks of things, having recently given a demo of the popular Unreal Engine 3 adapted to run on an iPhone.

Demoed to Anandtech last week, the iPhone is apparently capable of running the same engine as powers games like BioShock and Gears of War 2. Oh, an Unreal 3 itself, of course.

The demo was presented by Epic's Mark Rein and showcased a modified version of a tech-demo level that was fully playable thanks to a virtual thumbstick. You can check out footage from the demo below, but apparently the control scheme on show is just one of many types that Epic is experimenting with.

Epic has been eyeing up mobile platforms for some time by the sounds of it and Mark Rein promised that Epic would demo the engine working on other mobile platforms at CES early next year.
