Beamdog has announced that it is to release a remastered version of classic Advanced Dungeons & Dragons computer role-playing game (CRPG) Planescape: Torment, released back in 1999 by Interplay and developed by the noted and sadly defunct Black Isle Studio.

A single-player story-driven role-playing game, Planescape: Torment put the player in the role of The Nameless One and had an interesting twist on the usual RPG mechanics: not only was it possible to continue on with the adventure after dying, many puzzles required the character - an immortal - to die and come back in order to unlock hidden memories necessary to progress. While not a commercial success, the game has its fans and has - along with many other Black Isle games - become something of a cult classic in the years since its original release.

To capitalise on that cult classic status, Beamdog has announced that it is to release Planescape: Torment Enhanced Edition in early April. Building on its previous treatment of Black Isle's Baldur's Gate, the Enhanced Edition of Planescape Torment includes changes necessary to have it play nicely with modern operating systems, high-resolution graphics, minor interface tweaks to improve usability, and other minor changes overseen by the original lead designer Chris Avellone - but no new content or major changes to the storyline.

Planescape: Torment Enhanced Edition is to launch on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS platforms on April 11th. The company's promotional video is reproduced below, and more information is available from the official website.
