Corsair’s rapid expansion into the gaming peripheral market has been a hugely successful one, taking on all challengers with a series of superb mice, keyboards and headsets. Barely a release goes by that fails to impress us, as seen by the number of bit-tech awards Corsair has earnt.

In fact, there’s really only one thing the company has yet to do – cut the cords and release some wireless peripherals. Enter the Vengeance 2000, a high-end wireless headset aimed squarely at gamers, that does away with those pesky cables. With virtual 7.1 surround sound, it could add a new dimension to your games, and at £120, it’s one of the cheapest wireless surround sound headsets we’ve ever seen.

Taking it out of the box, it’s immediately clear that the Vengeance 2000 is a premium headset. Although it’s mostly constructed from plastic, there are plenty of design flourishes such as the brushed metal effect size adjustment sliders and cloth ear cups. Small blue highlights maintain the colour scheme already set out by the Vengeance 1100 and everything feels firm enough to survive the occasional bout of gamer rage.

Comfort is important for any headset, and thankfully the Vengeance 2000 delivers. Each oversized ear cup completely surrounds your ear, while the cushioned headband stops your head from feeling much of its weight. We definitely wouldn’t call it too heavy, but you’re unlikely to forget you’re wearing them when you get up from your PC.

The cloth ear cups may get a little toasty during lengthy gaming sessions, but at the same time are perfectly comfortable and allow your ears to breath. They block out a reasonable amount of background noise too, although they're not completely noise isolating. Each cup also leaks quite a lot of sound and at higher volumes, you’ll easily be disturbing anyone nearby.

Being wireless, on-board controls are provided via an oversized power button and volume dial are within easy reach on the left ear cup, along with the extendable boom microphone. It’s non-removable, but can be pushed up out of the way when it isn’t required. The arm is made from rubber, giving plenty of adjustability in case you need to move it closer or further away from your mouth.

Naturally as this is a wireless headset, the Vengeance 2000 also includes a USB wireless transmitter in the box. You have the choice of plugging it straight into your PC, or using the bundled extension cord (which also doubles as a stand). A Micro-USB cable is also included, to allow you to charge up the headset from a USB port.
