The eighth and last power supply in this test is the XFX Pro Series Black Edition 750W. Keen eyed readers will the note the striking similarity between the internal and external design of this one and Seasonic's X-750. The simple reason for this is that they're actually the same product, as XFX is one of Seasonic's OEM partners. Naturally, therefore, the Black Edition PSU comes with Gold certification. XFX do only supply a five year warranty instead of Seasonic's seven, but its PSU is currently almost £15 cheaper, with the reason for this likely being Seasonic not wanting to directly compete with its OEM partners.

Physically, the PSU is very similar to Seasonic's, although XFX has branded its PSU with white highlights and fonts and has given it a different fan grille above its black 120mm fan. The fully modular design is retained with the same clearly labelled ports, and likewise the cable set is the same as that of the X-750, so it's well kitted out for modern systems, and in most cases cable length shouldn't be an issue.

As you'd expect, voltage outputs on the single 62A rated +12V line under any amount of load are spot on, with it only falling to 11.90V under the heaviest load. There are no stability issues to speak of on the lower voltage rails either.

In terms of efficiency, this model again shows its brilliance, just managing to stay above 91 percent on average. Its peak efficiency is 91.54 percent under 500W of load. Ripple levels pleasingly also remain under 60mV in every test, the highest level being 56.4mV in the 700W load scenario. Both the efficiency and ripple results are a touch worse than those of the Seasonic, but remain excellent overall thanks to the insignificant margin in both instances.

Without load, the power consumption is just 0.10W; the lowest on test. Like the other hybrid fan models on test, the XFX PSU can also supply 500W of continuous power for 20 minutes without having to turn its fan on, and will thus remain silent in most situations.

The XFX Pro Series Black Edition 750W comes out in the middle of the other Gold rated PSUs in terms of price, but along with its Seasonic twin it demonstrates performance that is consistently first class, and with its robust feature set and silent operation it's difficult to fault. We still think Seasonic's PSU is pretty good value when you consider all that it offers, but with nothing but a £13 price difference splitting these two power supplies, the XFX one is clearly the one to go for.
