Commodore P.E.T. 2011 by TheGreatSatan

Project Log: Here

We're all for reusing old hardware here at bit-tech but when it comes to upgrades, we think TheGreatSatan's Commodore P.E.T. is going to see an astronomical increase in processing power too.

The subject of the project is a Commodore P.E.T. computer, which first hit the shelves all the way back in 1977. Needless to say, TheGreatSatan has his work cut out to get this relic looking good again and the first job was to remove the non-working, ancient-looking hardware that resided inside the case.

After a good clean, the case was ready for the installation of a motherboard tray, donated from an Antec Three Hundred, to provide a modern home for the new hardware. The latter has already been fitted, as you can see above, and TheGreatSatan has also cut a fan blowhole to improve the cooling facilities of the ageing case.

The back panel was sprayed black and a pentagram fan grille was added. The case has now had a super-modern interface makeover, and is equipped with USB 3.

In one of the most recent updates, TheGreatSatan has begun work on the keyboard and numeric keypad, both of which needed replacing. A similarly-styled keyboard was used, requiring the keyboard's surroundings to be enlarged. Meanwhile, the numeric keypad was replaced with a brand new USB-powered device, usually used with laptops.

There's a lot more to see in TheGreatSatan's project log. Head to the forum if you want to vote for this project.
