Hush! by Monkey Puzzle

Project Log: Here

A silent PC has been the quest of quite a few people on bit-tech over the years with PCs such as Silent Fibreglass going as far as making large custom radiators in an attempt to get away from assisted cooling with fans.

Passive cooling has one problem though. With normal water cooling radiators already boasting some hefty dimensions which mean only large, spacious cases can accept internal water cooling, passive cooled radiators needs some galactic surface areas in order to deal with the heat modern hardware produces.

Monkey Puzzle, not content with passive radiators currently available, decided to make his own, aptly named Hush! However the difference here is that the entire case will act as one giant water cooling radiator. Take a look at this.

Initial designs show the scale of what Monkey Puzzle is proposing. At least a dozen individual copper pipe channels in parallel all connected together as some kind of giant manifold, overlayed with copper sheets presumably to act as heatsinks to further increase the surface area. It's a grand idea and will look pretty insane if pulled off!

Amazingly it seems all the stacks of copper sheets were found laying around in a scrap yard. After some extensive cleaning get them back to their shiny, unoxidised glory, they were drilled ready for the copper pipes to be passed through.

Interestingly Monkey Puzzle has actually looked into some fairly technical models as to how heatsink separation can be optimised. It's actually quite interesting stuff we know one or two heat sink manufacturers that could learn a thing or two from his research!

In recent updates, Monkey Puzzle has really got the ball rolling and the case is actually starting to take shape. The reams of copper piping has been cut and bent to shape with countless 'U' shaped pieces making up the bulk of the case and cooling system. It's a crazy build and well worth keeping an eye on so make sure you check out the project log. If you want to vote for Monkey Puzzle's crazy, copper case then head over to the forums.
