Bring forth the jigsaw!

Every good mod has a victim, and this time I chose twins. I had acquired a couple rather unattractive full tower cases, with an absolutely hideous checker-patterned sticker on the front of each. The cases themselves weren't just something awful to look at, they actually weren't built very well either.

In fact, there was really not much that was good to say about them. A horrendous checkerboard shaped X, flimsy blue plastic and slate grey steel. So why use them?

Well, not for the case part - what they did have going for them was a great drive retention set-up, perfect for one of my top requirements. I had wanted lots of hard drives, and these cases could deliver - each one had a rack that could hold up to six drives. Aside from an ATX backplate, that was all they were good for.

Aren't these some of the ugliest cases you've ever seen? They didn't last long. I removed everything that I didn’t need, ending up with what’s in the right picture.

I started up with the motherboard-plate, and the back of the case, as that is the core of the case, which is important to get in the right position, both in angles and position – or else you’re out of luck when trying to install that shiny GFX.

For the next step I made the big HDD-cage to hold the twelve drives, and I also made the supports to hold it in place. The DVD is fitted through the bottom of the case with small screws.
