Maximize New OS Features Including Multi-Touch Technology

Telford, England, October 19, 2009 -- Getac, a leading innovator and manufacturer of rugged computers that meet the demands of field-based applications, announced today that its complete line of rugged notebook computers and tablet PCs are fully compatible with Microsoft's long-awaited Windows 7 Operating System. Windows 7 will enhance Getac's newly-introduced Resistive Multi-Touch technology with an entire library of identified gestures for keyboard-free PC operation, even with industrial gloves.

Certified by Microsoft, Getac’s Resistive Multi-Touch technology supports Windows 7 operating system, by using a series of single touch, dual touch, "flick," and application gestures so users of Getac products can quickly and easily perform numerous on-screen tasks such as move, copy, delete, zoom, and rotate by simply touching the screen and performing the task desired with their fingers. Unlike commonly used capacitive multi-touch technology, resistive multi-touch technology can perform these actions, and many others while wearing protective gloves, making it ideal for industrial and field professionals who work with dangerous chemicals or perform their job in extreme weather conditions. Even with gloves, the sensitivity and accuracy of the multi-touch screen is extremely high. The screen features 2048x2048 resolution, 100 points per second report rate, and less than 35ms response time.

"Working closely with Microsoft, we were able to voice the needs of our customers to ensure that our resistive Multi-touch function works hand-in-hand with their Windows 7 operating system. We have seen the excitement over the launch of Windows 7 increase exponentially and are excited to be a part of it right from the start, said Peter Molyneux, Business Development Director, Getac UK. “In addition, we continue to advance our technology with the introduction of the Getac V100, the industrial’s first rugged laptop with resistive multi-touch panel. We will soon enable this feature to our full product line."

To catch the shifting trend to Windows 7 operating systems, Getac rugged products including A790, M230, V100, and B300 will be Windows 7 compatible beginning on the Operating System's availability date of October 22, 2009.

The new Microsoft operating system Windows 7 incorporates hundreds of improvements designed to maximize the overall performance of Getac's line of rugged Notebook PCs and Tablet PCs. It offers easy access to WiFi networks, reduced battery consumption, faster startup and shutdown times, and a faster and more responsive 64-bit driver. Numerous features included in Windows 7 will enhance the overall performance of Getac products. In short, Windows 7 is responsive, reliable, and runs smoothly, and will allow field workers to work smarter, faster and more efficiently.
