CPC launches the UK’s first free Raspberry Pi hack day

The true potential of Raspberry Pi, the number one gadget of 2012, is set to be uncovered at the first Raspberry Pi hack day in the UK.

This 24hr bake-a-thon will see 100 of the best hardware and software hackers being invited to register at cpc.farnell.com/pihack by online electronics supplier and Raspberry Pi distributor CPC, in order to take part in a head-to-head challenge.

Equipped with just a room – plus unlimited power, internet access, and dinner, breakfast and snacks – participants will be asked to test their coding and design skills and develop soft- or hardware using the credit card sized computer. Competitors can work individually or in teams of up to four and are free to solder and electrical hack to their heart’s content.

Up for grabs for the best overall innovation is a personal tour of Sony UKs Raspberry Pi manufacturing facility in Wales, while category winners will be awarded from a roster of must-have gadgets available from cpc.co.uk including: Philips Full HD Pocket Camcorders, Hubsan H107 Quadcopter, Logicom Spy tank, Storage Options 7" Android Tablet PC and Raspberry Pi Plug and Play Kits.

All competitors will also receive a Raspberry Pi case from the newly launched Camden Boss range plus a 10% off CPC gift certificate for use at cpc.co.uk valid until 31st May 2013.

Categories include Best Hardware Hack, Best Software Hack, Best Game, Best Team and Best Individual.

Creations will be judged by a stellar panel including LeedsHack’s Dom Hodgson, experts from UCLan, such as Barbara MacManus, Associate Head of School of Computing, Engineering & Physical Sciences and David Deventer, Head of Marketing CPC.

The 24-hour CPC Pi Hack will be held at Munro House in Leeds on 1st and 2nd December.

A jam element will be integral to the event in which spectators can explore the Pi and discover coding basis, experts from UCLan will be on hand to offer assistance suitable for every level of ability.

David Deventer, Head of Marketing at CPC, who announced the event today, explained: “Raspberry Pi is revolutionalising the tech market and we wanted to host the UK’s first dedicated hack-day to celebrate the most talked about gadget of 2012.
