There has been a lot of talk about mobility over the past couple of days and the reason for that is because it’s becoming an increasingly more important part of the industry.

During Otellini’s keynote, he said that mobility is now mainstream and that is largely thanks to the introduction of the Centrino platform in 2003.

Since then, we’ve seen the notebook market grow significantly. Before Centrino, Intel’s market share in the total client shipments was just over 20 percent and now the percentage of PC shipments that are Intel mobile solutions has increased to over 40 percent of the total PC market. That’s quite phenomenal growth in just four years.

Dadi Perlmutter, Intel senior vice president and general manager of Intel’s mobility group, said that the current projection is for mobile shipments to overtake desktop shipments in 2009. He also believes that Montevina will help to accelerate the rate of adoption even further.
