Handheld gaming is an increasingly massive market and nowadays it seems like just about everyone in the world has a Nintendo DS stashed somewhere on their person. It's fairly understandable then that other companies are trying to get in on the market.

Obviously, not all of them are doing very well. The Tapwave Zodiac was an utter failure for example, while the GP2X has managed to thrive in the open-source community. Now there's another new comer on the scene.

Although technically a portable media player, the Solar MP4 MS3588 from HK Power has the ability to do so much more than just play videos and music and seems to be aimed clearly at a 'green' market. The MS3588 can run emulation software for both the NES and GameBoy and can be powered via a solar panel in addition to the usual DC methods.

The MS3588 also does the usual media playback and can handle e-books, video, photos and music. The memory can also be expanded via a SD card.

In terms of overall design, the 3.5" device seems to have drawn inspiration from the lower half of a DS Classic judging from the layout of the buttons in the picture - though unfortunately the only images available are plastered with watermarks. Sigh.

So, what's your handheld of choice? Are you more of a PSP player than a DS fanboy, or are you some Linux-loving GP2X user? Let us know in the forums!
