R2D2 home theatre droid is strong in the Force

R2D2 home theatre droid is strong in the Force

R2, where are you?

This is, absolutely, the greatest thing in the world.

It's R2D2. for real.

Developed by a Japanese electronics firm and fully licensed by LucasFilm, it's a functioning R2D2 model that acts as a mini home theatre centre. It has a projector built into the top - just like the real R2 - as well as USB ports, an iPod dock, a DVD drive and component inputs for hooking up to a video source.

Using a remote control shaped like the Millenium Falcon, R2 can move around at your whim, as well as 'lie down', enabling you to project onto the ceiling.

It will run you around $2500, but it's a real R2D2 that will be your trusty sidekick, whether or not you live in a galaxy far, far away. Even if the Force isn't with you, R2 will be.

This is the single most awesome thing at the CES show. If you're a Star Wars geek, like me, the idea of this will have you hooked and drooling like nothing else on this planet.

Nothing can explain this except for pictures - so here you go.

Enjoy - and let us know your thoughts in the forums.

In the bit-tech spirit... mod your own and include a HTPC in it instead...

I'd want it, but the build quality looks AWFUL, it looks like it would fall apart very quickly.

Good god that's amazing. If I had $2500, I'd buy one right now.

Very cool, but the text plastered all over it kinda ruins the look. I'm assuming the text won't be on the retail model?

They look like stickers to demonstrate the integration to visitors to me, like the ones you get on digital cameras etc.

You are seriously on the wrong forum then :p

I really love that and if I had the money would have to have it just for the geek factor.

Ok.... I will pay that much if they make one with a 1920x1200 pixel projector in it so I can link it up to my PC as well...<drools>
Lazarus Dark 11th January 2007, 21:30 Quote
that... is hardcore. I love star wars and have great respect for anyone who would purchase this. Only question is... Is it THX certified? :P
Brooxy 11th January 2007, 21:40 Quote

That it excellent. If i could afford it and had the room for a projector, that would be the one.
Snafu-X- 12th January 2007, 02:49 Quote
It's cool and all....but does it have the stun gun?
Constructacon 12th January 2007, 07:01 Quote
Nice. But does it project holograms? :p

That remote is pretty sweet looking too.
Generic42 12th January 2007, 07:05 Quote
I give it 5 months before a rival company comes out with C3PO w/ an X-wing remote...

worst part is, I'd buy 'em both!
antiHero 12th January 2007, 09:28 Quote
This....is....so....AWESOME!!!!

But 2500$??? To much for me :'(
geek1017 12th January 2007, 09:49 Quote
That is simultaneously the best, most dorky, and silliest thing I have ever seen.

The Star Wars geek in me wants it.
but I don't know if I could justify the expense with it's limited functionality and useless features.

I agree that if it were a little bigger and had a full HTPC inside it I would buy it in a second (assuming I had the spare cash)

Being mobile is cool. But does it talk to you based on the functions you've selected?

Djpuk 16th January 2007, 00:53 Quote
