It looks like GECUBE are going to be releasing a Radeon X1800XT-based video card with an enhanced clock speed.

According to their products page, they have announced a Radeon X1800XT with a core clock speed of 700MHz.

There are no indications on the memory speed at the moment, but we wouldn't be surprised to see GECUBE increase that as well. They have stated that the card - dubbed the X1800XT Extreme Edition - will come in both 256MB and 512MB incarnations.

The card will come with exactly the same feature set as the standard Radeon X1800XT, which comes clocked at 625/1500MHz. The only difference will be the increased clocks. This should help it to give GeForce 7800 GTX 512 a run for its money.

If ATI and its partners can manage to make the overclocked Radeon X1800XT's more available than NVIDIA's flagship card, they could pick up a healthy amount of sales from potential NVIDIA customers who just can't buy the card they want at the moment. We have written quite a lot about NVIDIA's GeForce 7800 GTX 512 problems already.

There is no indication on price just yet, but we wonder whether it'll cost less than NVIDIA's GTX 512. It's currently retailing at around £500, but you'll be lucky to find one available online right now. Share your thoughts with us in the news forum.
