Sony's keynote speech at the Tokyo Game Show has been labelled a 'trainwreck' by various attendees, after PlayStation grandfather Ken Kuturagi failed to reveal anything substantial about the launch of the console and its games.
Ken did let us know that the price of the console is being cut - but only the 20GB model, and only in Japan, which is great if you're, well, in Japan.
There's also the news that both versions of the console now include HDMI output. Ken stunned the world by saying that they'd made the decision recently. Apparently, Ken thought that there were no HDMI TVs in May, at E3, but now there are loads. Err, right.
There was very little discussion of games, with Kuturagi instead focusing on technical announcements. He told listeners that PS3 would include a 'global mapping system' which will allow users to take photographs of their surroundings and upload them, creating a global map. This could, somehow, allow users to participate in the development of games. We're not really sure.
In game news, Ridge Racer 7 will be a launch title (and looks pretty tasty), Metal Gear Solid will not be out until late 2007 (there's a new gameplay trailer here), Gran Turismo HD will be a multiplayer showcase, and will ship with a barebones amount of tracks, with other cars and tracks being bought online. Gran Turismo 5, the new game, will ship in 2008 with a demo included on the GTHD disc.
