Reports are starting to surface that Shadow of the Colossus, the epic PlayStation 2 game which became a cult hit thanks to an unusual design and beautiful score, will be getting the movie treatment courtesy of Sony Pictures.

And if you liked Shadow of the Colossus then we recommend that you stop reading there - the rest is all bad news.

According to the Hollywood Reporter's Risky Biz Blog, Sony has already started attaching some names to the film, none of which are likely to inspire confidence in fans of the title.

The screenplay for the adaptation will apparently be penned by Justin Marks, who's most recent writing credit is the universally panned Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li action film starring Kirsten Kreuk. The film will be produced by Kevin Misher, who previously worked on The Scorpion King. Ugh.

Shadow of the Colossus tells the story of a hero called Wander and his horse Agro who embark on a quest to slay several massive enemies called Collosi in an effort to save a girl called Mono. The game itself was remarkably sparse in terms of dialogue and for the majority of the game the only characters you see are the hero and his horse - so a film adaptation should be interesting, to say the least.

There's currently no release date announced for the film, nor any other details, but we'll be sure to keep you updated on any news we hear. In the meantime, let us know your thoughts on the game and the film in the forums.
