Bethesda has today announced plans to develop at least two new batches of downloadable content for Fallout 3, as well as an update that will finally make the existing downloadable content for the game available to PlayStation 3 gamers.

Bethesda claims that the new PlayStation 3 update should help make all existing and forthcoming DLC available for the platform and that Sony should be putting the update out very soon - though there's not release date available just yet. Likewise, the new downloadable content packs (which will be available for every platform) haven't got exact release dates either, though we do have some initial details.

The first of the two DLC packs will be called Point Lookout and should introduce an entirely new area of swampland to the gameworld. There's no single plotline for the area that's yet been announced, but Bethesda promises that it'll be littered with new quests and content. Set to cost 800 MS points on Games For Windows Live and Xbox Live, the pack should be available in late June, with a PS3 date not yet revealed.

The second DLC is to be called Mothership Zeta and will focus on the return of the aliens to the Fallout universe, with players getting abducted and taken aboard the titular mothership. Again, it'll cost 800 MS points on PC and Xbox 360, with a release in late July and an unannounced PS3 release date.

On top of these announcements, Bethesda also plans to have the DLC packs available in shops soon enough, along with a Fallout 3: Game of the Year edition in October. The first of two add-on packs will bundle Operation: Anchorage and The Pitt and will be available on June 12th. The second will put together Broken Steel and Point Lookout and should ship in August for Xbox 360 and PC.

Interestingly, Bethesda says it will not be making versions of these add-on packs available in shops for the PS3, though the Game of the Year edition will bundle all DLC and will be available for PS3. Elsewise you'll have to pick up the DLC individually over PSN, it seems.

Bethesda obviously seems to have had a good reaction to the Fallout 3 DLC packs then, despite the awful experiences that we've had with them in the past. Let us know what you think of the packs in the forums and check out our full Fallout 3 review for more info on the game.
