Bethesda has announced that it is opening the beta for its upcoming Quake Champions twitch shooter to all, starting this weekend and and running through to May 21st.

First shown off at Quakecon 2016, Quake Champions aims to reimagine the classic twitch gaming franchise for the modern era. Rather than the one-character-fits-all model of the original Quake, Quake Champions is based around - what else - Champions, each of which has a particular set of abilities and statistics that affect how the character plays. Bethesda, jointly owned with developer Id Software by corporate overlord Zenimax, has been running a closed beta test ahead of the game's commercial release, but from this weekend those who have not been granted access will be able to play the game for the first time.

'Haven’t been able to get into the Closed Beta? You’re in luck! From May 12 through May 21, there will be a Large-Scale Tech Test where everyone who wants to play Quake Champions will be able to,' announced Anne Lewis on the Bethesda blog. 'No wondering if you’re going to get a code – you’ll get it right away! Unlike the previous weekends-only structure, the game will remain live 24/7 during the Tech Test. Test out all the currently available Champions and maps for 9 days straight.'

At the same time as the launch of the tech test, the non-disclosure agreement (NDA) signed by all beta participants will expire, allowing those who have been playing the game already to publicly discuss their experiences as well as to stream and share gameplay footage. The tech test will also come with a new 4v4, team-based game mode dubbed Sacrifice.

The Quake Champions tech test runs from May 12th to May 21st; thus far, Bethesda hasn't announced a launch date for the game proper beyond promising it 'soon'.
