Bethesda has confirmed that there will definitely be no developer tools for mod-makers shipped with the PC version of the upcoming Fallout 3.

The developer of the sequel to Interplay's widely renowned post-apocalyptic RPG series has not ruled out the possibility of developer tools shipping in the future, but says that there is no chance of any modding tools coming to the console version in the future.

Speaking to fans on the Bethesda forums, Todd Howard confirmed that there is a possibility of developer toolset being made available as a free download, but nothing was confirmed.

"It will definitely not be included on the disk...If and when one is available it will be a free download. I wish I could promise that an editor will be coming and when, but I can't," said Howard.

"As far as consoles go, that's not happening for this game and user content. It's something we keep talking about with Microsoft and Sony, but there are a lot of barriers there right now, from delivery to security."

Howard went on to explain that though he would love to see PC-made content made available on consoles, but that there are too many barriers on consoles which prevent this from becoming a possibility.

Todd then went on to explain that a number of the mechanics featured in Fallout 3 would be similar to those in [i]Oblivion, but with a more focused story. Check our Fallout 3 preview for more details, or let us know what you think in the forums.
