Numerous sources are reporting this morning that a deal to create a movie based on the exploits of everyone's favourite Spartan is imminent.

Microsoft caused a storm last week by delivering copies of a script for the Halo movie to numerous film studios in the States and attempting to prompt a bidding war for the rights to film the movie. However, the stringent terms Microsoft attached to the license has already put off a number of larger studios including Paramount and Warner.

However, it does seem now that Fox and Universal are going to jointly fund and produce the movie.

The script has been penned by lengendary scribe Alex Garland, who has previously written acclaimed Brit-flick 28 Days Later and best-selling novel The Beach.

There's no word about who might play Master Chief, although we bloody well hope that the film uses the voices of the characters from the game, including the gorgeously sexy voice of Cortana, Jen Taylor. How we love her.

What kind of plot could the film follow? Well, word has it that the film is being timed to co-incide with the release of Halo 3 on the Xbox 360 next Spring, so the storyline looks set to tie in with that, which itself will follow on from the events of Halo 2. Microsoft are hoping that the resulting Halo-mania will spoil the launch of the PlayStation 3, which is also due to be released in the Spring.

Frankly, we're absolutely wetting our pants at this one. We're unashamedly Halo fan-boys, we're killing to get our hands on the latest version and the thought of having a movie to go along with it is drool-inducing. Here's hoping Fox and Universal don't stuff it up.
