After stating that it would be concentrating on its Witcher franchise for the next few years, developer CD Projekt Red has begun powering up the hype machine for upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 with the promise that it is going to be the company's biggest title yet.

Best known for fantasy series The Witcher, the third entry of which became a best-seller upon launch earlier this year, and its DRM-free digital distribution service GoG.com, Polish studio CD Projekt Red is known to be working on a sci-fi adventure dubbed Cyberpunk 2077. Since the launch of a teaser trailer setting the scene, however, the company has been quiet, telling fans back in May that it was looking to concentrate on The Witcher 3 for the next two years.

Now, though, the company appears to be revising its policy of silence, and is actively seeking to generate hype around the title with an interview for trade publication MCV. 'Cyberpunk is far bigger than anything else that CD Projekt Red has done before,' claimed visual effects artist Jose Teixeira of the game. 'Far, far bigger. We're really stepping into the unknown in terms of complexity and size and problems we encounter.'

Hinting that the game would be considerably larger than The Witcher 3, itself jam-packed with content, Teixeira told the publication that many of the lessons learned on the fantasy franchise would benefit development of Cyberpunk 2077. What Teixeira would not share, however, was a launch date, joking that the company is looking towards 2077 as a release deadline - after which, it is to be supposed, the game would cease to be science fiction and instead become alternate history.
