A new expansion is being launched for Bioware’s MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic titled Shadow of Revan.

The plot of the expansion revolves around Revan, one of the key characters from the classic Knights of the Old Republic RPG.

The expansion will cost $19.99 and will give players access to new multiplayer Flashpoint and Operations challenges, five new areas and an increased level cap, raising the maximum level to 60.

Shadow of Revan is expected to launch on December 9 with access granted one week early to anyone pre-ordering before November 2. Pre-order bonuses also include the digital expansion, Rise of the Hutt Cartel and a Revan statue for use in the Player Stronghold.

Any existing subscribers picking up the expansion before November 2 will also get a twelve times multiplier experience boost on story mission until December 1, up to level 55.

Star Wars: The Old Republic was revealed to be the fourth highest earning MMO title by subscriptions based on revenue figures from 2013. Annually, it pulls in approximately $165m and has an MMO market share of 6%. It is behind World of Warcraft, the original Lineage and TERA: Online and one place ahead of Lord of the Rings Online.

The Old Republic launched in December 2011 and at the time it was estimated to be the most expensive video game ever made with a budget of between $150m and $200m. It clocked up 1 million subscribers in its first week and has remained a high earner for publisher EA.
