Browser-based MMO/MOBA Transformers Universe has entered its open beta phase.

Developed by Runescape developer Jagex, Transformers Universe was first revealed in 2011 and initially had more of a traditional MMORPG structure. More recent builds have adapted to become more like the MOBAs made popular by Leauge of Legends and DOTA.

The beta launched with double experience available for players and a $75,000 prize pool for various events happening over the weekend. The developer is offering cash rewards to the ten players who recruit the most people to the game with a $5,000 reward offered to the highest.

Other cash prizes were offered to the top three PVP players in three different level brackets with the rest of the top 10 being offered a Transformers Universe ‘goody bag’.

The developers of Transformers Universe are also currently exploring the world and can be identified by a golden crown visible next to their in-game names.

A 50% discount on the game’s Bronze Founders Pack to celebrate the launch of the open beta is also still running until midday. This gives players a unique avatar, title, a 60 day season pass, a selection of in-game relics and an entry on the Founders Honour Roll.

Transformers Universe expects to be out of open beta in time for a full launch later this summer.
