Portal 2 delayed

Portal 2 delayed

Valve has delayed Portal 2 until April 22nd, 2011 on all platforms.

Valve has announced that it has delayed the release of Portal 2 across all platforms in what it is calling 'the shortest delay in company history'

Originally set for release on February 9th, 2011, Portal 2 has now been pushed back to April 22nd, 2011.

'This two month slip not only marks the shortest delay in Valve's proud tradition of delays, it represents the approaching convergence of Valve Time and Real Time,' said a Valve press release.

'This convergence spells doom for humanity, [but] it will not affect the new Portal 2 release date.'

Portal 2 is in development for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and, unlike the original Portal, will involve a co-operative campaign to bolster the singleplayer content.

You can check out our review of Portal for more information on the series, or check out the Portal Companion Cube mod if that review is old news to you.

Playstation 2? People still make games for that?

I love the way Valve make announcements, even the delays. It's nothing I wasn't already expecting.

"Approaching convergence of valve time and real time" ?
Alright, someone's going to say it sooner or later so we might as well get this out of the way.

Is that a hint as to the valve release we've all *really* been waiting for? Ep3/HL3?
wuyanxu 19th November 2010, 12:17 Quote
it won't be Valve without delays :)

still, i can't even wait to pre-order it on Steam.

Yeah yeah Portal 2, but what about Episode soddin' 3? Huh, huh? I have faith in Valve to make it the (SP) game that'll be remembered, but seriously - come on!

I'm not surprised and I'm not annoyed. They need to make sure it's perfect.

But I cant speak for the girlfriend. She's been looking forward to Portal 2 ever since I got her to play the first one 6 months ago to show her what all this gaming I do is about. She's not a patient person lol.

I never even knew it had a date to be released in the first place. To be honest I have kinda never looked at there games release dates ever since I was waiting at the keyboard for over a year for Half Life 2 to come out.
GravitySmacked 19th November 2010, 14:30 Quote
I don't now why they gave it a release date to be honest; why not wait until it's almost finished first.

But their announcement did cheer me up a bit, LOL!

Valve is among the best if not THE best as far as game dev companies.

All Hail Newell!!

Yeah, I know we waited so long for it (over 3 years!), but this Episode 3 is just GREAT! ;)

I believe the latest (?) Silent Hill game, Shattered Memories, was released only for PS2 and Wii in early 2010.
DarkLord7854 20th November 2010, 05:14 Quote
As if anyone really believes it's really going to be released in April.. lol.

New press release:

"OH HAI GUYS WE'VE MOVED THE RELEASE FORWARD 3 WEEKS FOR YOU! GO VALVE TIME!"

On "release day"...

"Hey, how come Portal 2 hasn't unlocked yet?"
"No idea, mate. Has it passed midnight yet?"
"Yeah, Steam says it's 00:01, April 1s... The t**ts..."

I still haven't played Ep 2 yet but i've just now noticed that I own it, I don't know how long its been in my STEAM list. I don't remember buying it, did Valve give it away free?

Wait you haven't played Epsiode 2 yet? Good God man! Somebody get this guy some free time STAT! I was looking forward to playing this the day after the ol' bday but I have no problem waiting a couple months. Valve has NEVER disappointed me before. I love you Gabe.

I just appreciate that someone out there still has a sense of humor.
NethLyn 20th November 2010, 23:20 Quote
Big deal, they moved it clear of DNF and Crysis 2. I'm buying it retail so not really bothered, but it's a good reminder to reload and get past level 14 of the first game.

[EDIT] on the sense of humour front the Recommended For You Ad Banner cartoon in the Steam Library page is very funny.
Instagib 20th November 2010, 23:35 Quote
You know what? i've come to expect two things; either a) the game comes out on time and is buggy as hell (a la New vagas) or b) the game is delayed.

What ever happened to games coming out on time and working?
Krikkit 20th November 2010, 23:38 Quote
Maybe because high-profile games are in such massive demand, the developers set dates too early in the dev cycle which they sometimes find they can't keep later on. That, or they stick to the original date and rush the last bits - playtesting and bug fixes.

Nice to see they have a sense of humour :). Pity the game will be delayed, but 2 months is not so long really.

December 21 2012 is the date that Valve time and real time converge. On that date Episode 3 will release in a paradox along with HL3.

Then Valve unleash their internet cannon and fire LOLz at us?
Cafuddled 23rd November 2010, 12:37 Quote
I don't know how they could make Episode 3 good with the dated engine that is HL2... maybe that's what is taking them so long to make it. I guess this whole episode thing never worked out huh...
