GamesCom 2010: Developer CD Projekt Red has confirmed that upcoming RPG sequel The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings will allow players to import their save games from the original.

Importing your save games won't carry everything over, said Witcher 2 senior producer Tomasz Gop, because many of the underlying systems have been overhauled for the sequel. As a result, protagnist Geralt's abilities and skills will be essentially reset in The Witcher 2.

Some quest decisions and major choices will be carried over into The Witcher 2 however, allowing players to see the long term consequences of their actions – a key feature of the original game too.

CD Projekt Red presented several new sequences from The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings to bit-tech today and we have to say that the game looks quite good – Joe's already labelled it his favourite thing from the whole show.

We'll be bringing you some more detailed thoughts on The Witcher 2 in a preview soon, but until then you can read our review of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition.
