The remnants of original Call of Duty developer, Infinity Ward, may move away from the COD franchise and on to other projects, according to Activision VP Dave Stohl.

Infinity Ward has been focused on recruiting new talent since founders Jason West and Vince Zampella left the company after a disagreement with Activision, taking a chunk of the Modern Warfare team with them. Zampella and West have since setup a new team, Respawn. Remaining IW staff have sought damages from Activision.

"Recruiting at Infinity Ward is not a problem. What we’re trying to do is say that Infinity Ward is a culture, it’s a way of doing things," said Stohl in an interview with VG247.

Discussing rumours that Infinity Ward will move to create new franchises, Stohl was cagey - but he did comment that IW has a strong "shooter philosophy".

"I think that there’s a short- and long-term view on the whole thing," he added. "But I think we’re rebuilding a studio that can go off and build great new franchises in the future."

The other Call of Duty developer, Treyarch, has since moved to become the lead developer for the franchise and is now "100 percent focused" on that brandd, according to studio head Mark Lamia in another interview.

Ironically, one of the reasons West and Zampella were thought to have rebelled against Activision is that they weren't given the option to work on other projects, allegedly.
