Spore Creature Editor coming before the full game

Spore Creature Editor coming before the full game

The Spore creature editor will be available before the full game.

Spore is big news at the moment - dominating the front page of bit-tech with it's various layers of wow, and the news still won't stop coming. In fact, Electronic Arts has just revealed that the popular creature editor for the game will be available before the full game.

Even better (for us anyway), Spore will see an early release in Europe. While America will get the game on the 7th of September 2008, we Brits and Europeans will be playing the game already - it will be available in Europe on the 5th of September.

The creature editor of the game, which we can assure you is as flexible and fun as you could ever hope, will be available to gamers before the full game is released on PC. Details about it are thin on the ground right now and EA hasn't clarified if the editor will be free (we hope so), or at a cost.

What is known though is that the full retail version of the game will be compatible with the creature editor.

The creature editor for the game is definitely a massive part of the game's attraction as it lets players create literally any monster they want through a very simple interface.

Are you all Spore-ed out, or can't you get enough of the game? Let us know in the forums.

For me this is the most exciting game release-buildup for PC of 2008.
It's not often in the past few years that I get so excited about the release of a game, but I really cannot wait to get my hands on this. :)

I'll name him....

Special Ed

Because I'm sure my crazy imagination is going to cripple my creature in ways I can not think of!

What's the betting that the only way of getting the editor early is to pre-order the game through EA downloader

I'm pretty sure it will be like willowthewhite said. That woud be a stupid move imho.. If they would make the editor for everyone more people would like to interact with their creatures = more will buy the game.
It would be nice if there would be an option to design buildings also.
scarrmrcc 14th February 2008, 13:22 Quote
what would be really nice, is the ability to save what you create, for use in the game (to import) that way if you like your creature, you don't have to make all over again...

Sweet! I'm not too bothered if I can't transfer from creature editor to game when it's released, just playing around with it will be fun enough, I'm sure I can recreate anything without too much effort if I really want to.

Spore: Genesis, Verses 1 - 7

On the First Day, Will Wright created Spore. And he saw it was good.
On the Second Day, EA publish Spore. And they saw it was good.
On the Third Day, Europe gets Spore. And we saw it was good.
On the Fourth day, gamers created our own world. And we saw it was good.
On the Fifth day, America gets Spore. And America saw it was good.
On the Sixth day, gamers across the globe upload their content. And we saw each other's monsters were good.
And on the Seventh and Final Day, Gamers gave up life in favour of Spore. And we saw it was good.

I'm going to make the angels that star in the Evangelion series! ^_^ Or try to at least. :P

*Prays EA don't **** this up*

I can see it now.

If Spore is plagued with any of these typical EA sell out bugs, I'm getting my money back.

I am willing to bet that it will be free. I think that they are going to want people to be able to populate the universe with other people's creatures when the game first comes out. best way to do that is to give the creature editor for free and let people upload their creatures.

I though in the game you started off with a simple creature, and then built up on it as you evolve. How that ties in with someone building a creature in a standalone creature builder I can't figure out. They'd have to be either the simplest creature form, or allowed to be fully evolved, yet without actually playing the game.
CardJoe 15th February 2008, 07:48 Quote
No, in the full game you design from scratch too. Everyone starts with a single cell, some feelers and a mouth, but from there you can add or take whatever you want.

Hell yeah!!! Can't wait for another life consuming game!!!

It's a way for people to have a play around with the game before it's released, and I imagine, so maxis can populate their creature library even more for release. This doesn't really tie in with the final game, it's just a demo really.

I have been waiting for this game from day one. I really hope the editor is a free download not tied to ea's online stuff
