Sega - no more Dreamcast games

No more GD-ROM. D'oh :o(

Sega has declared that, from February this year, it will no longer be making GD-ROM blank discs, the optical format used by the Dreamcast.

The move ends the tickle of support that still remains for the console. There are two games due out by April this year - Trigger Heart Exelica is due February 22 and Karous is slated for March 8.

The GD-ROM format was also used for Sega's arcade games, using the NAOMI arcade system. Whether or not this will mean the end of NAOMI development, too, is unclear.

However, there are still plenty of ways to get new games onto the Dreamcast - such as by using ROM boards or ROMs burned to a CD. Many Dreamcast games didn't actually use the full 1.2GB capacity of the GD-ROM anyway, hence the fact many of them have since tipped up on pirated CDRs.
