The final beta of Mozilla's highly anticipated Firefox 4 browser has now been released for testing, promising over 7,000 bug fixes since the last beta release.

This instalment is the 12th beta version of the browser, after early glimpses first hit our screens in July 2009. According to The Mozilla Blog, the new beta 'delivers improved performance and responsiveness when watching videos on your favorite video websites.' As tech news site The Register points out, this basically means better Flash performance.

As well as improved performance, including GPU-based hardware acceleration, Firefox 4 also offers many other significant tweaks over its predecessors.

These include a new tab location, built-in cross-platform synchronisation, drag and drop tab organisation and improved stability for add-ons, which are hugely popular with Firefox.

Firefox 4 is due for release in the first half of this year, so we can expect plenty more information over the coming weeks. We suspect that it will accelerate the browser's uptake over Internet Explorer even further. If you want to take a look, you can download the latest beta here.

Have you taken any of the Firefox 4 betas for a test drive? Are any of the new features or tweaks awesome or awful? Let us know in the forums.
