Episode 3 of the CPC and bit-tech Podcast

It's been a while since we last cast forth a pod from Dennis Towers, owing to the fact that our M-Audio mixer has been in for repairs. It's back now and so Alex and Mark from CPC sat down with Richard and Joe from bit-tech to talk about the important happenings in the world of technology. First up of course, the imminent arrival of Intel's P55-chipset based motherboards, and Intel's Lynnfield core CPUs.

We've already previewed two of the boards (one from Asus, one from Gigabyte) and since then we've had a bit more time in the labs to play around with them. Rich then attempts to make it clear what differentiates between a Core i5 and an i7. As Joe says, is Intel branding simply a case that "if you can't blind them with brilliance, bewilder them with bullcrap?"

On the software side of things, Google's announcement of an OS for desktop and laptop PCs, called Chrome, has grabbed plenty of headlines. The panel discusses what we know about Chrome OS and the big decisions Google still has to make. Will Chrome OS be any good for gaming? Will ordinary people - people such as Joe's Mum - care about it? It's the source of much passionate debate.

There's plenty of gaming news to mull over, too. Activision has announced Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 will have a recommended retail price of £55. We've been covering Monkey Island as if our lives depended on trying to discover the curse of Monkey Island, so there's much to be said about the adventures of Guybrush Driftwood. Rich also weighs into Battlefield 1943, and we also debate whether Left 4 Dead 2 is a sequel too soon, or a savvy move on Valve's part.

Listen carefully and you can also win a copy of Zeno Clash by guessing the game music we play, as well. Plus, Joe reveals what the internet actually sounds like and Alex relates how he once got a BMW for free, and why CPC is always two months ahead.
