Duo arrested for sending 1.6 billion spams

The two men are suspected to have sent out around 1.6 billion emails in four months.

Yesterday, two spammers from South Korea were arrested on suspicion of sending out around 1.6 billion unsolicited emails in violation of the country's commerce laws.

The young men, aged 20 and 26, are suspected of sending all of the mails out between September and December 2006. Police say the two men are involved in what has been described as one of the biggest spam blasts in the country's history.

Police claimed that the two have obtained personal and financial data from the 12,000 South Koreans who responded to the unsolicited messages, before selling the information onto lending services firms for over £50,000.

The pair were not named by police, but the police has said that it will turn over all evidence to prosecutors soon. The prosecutors will then inform the court of the charges they're looking to file against the pair.
