Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 is going for the low, low price of $59,95 for college students.

Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 is going for the low, low price of $59,95 for college students.

Do you like Microsoft's Office productivity suite but don't like the slimmed down Home & Student Edition? Well listen up because Microsoft is basically giving the Ultimate edition away.

If you're a college or university student in the US, Great Britain or Canada and have a valid email address that end in ".edu" or "ac.uk" then you'll be able save $619 off of the retail price by picking it up for $59.95. Later on this month students in France, Italy and Spain will be able to gain the same deal.

If you're unable to provide all of the information requested by Microsoft though, you'll have to pay the full cost of $679.

Many of our fine academic institutions already offer discounts on Microsoft's products, but this promotion is coming straight out of Redmond. You better act fast on this if you're wanting to grab a copy at this low price as the promotion will end on 30 April 2008.

Of course you'll probably be able to pick up a copy on eBay for a reasonable price during the duration of the promotion and even if you don't feel like paying at all, there is always OpenOffice and StarOffice that are available for free.

Sound like the deal of a lifetime? Sound out over in the forums or in the comment section below.

Oh and $60 works out to be £38.95 in the UK, including VAT. I've got my copy. :)
Quote devdevil85 14th September 2007, 15:14
can anybody say "ebay" hehehe
Quote zerolock 14th September 2007, 15:15

ac.uk is ok too, look at the website ;)
Quote TomD22 14th September 2007, 16:31
Yeah, I just checked it out and saw that.

But the bittech article specifically says "If you're a college or university student in the US, Great Britain or Canada and have a valid email address that end in ".edu", which obviously isn't correct.
Quote Fr4nk 14th September 2007, 16:59
you can also get it for £12.50 for year which is pretty sweet :)

Tbh, I'd rather support OOo and open standards rather then buggy poorly documented pseudo propriety ones.
Quote Edenalig 14th September 2007, 17:34
What about .sch.uk? Alot of students fall into those too......
Quote squeck 14th September 2007, 18:12
The .ac.uk domain is only for universities and six form colleges etc as far as i'm aware, whereas schools get the .sch.uk - so it looks like the offer is only open to uni students.
Quote fathazza 14th September 2007, 18:30
im game for this.

It says they will send you out disks for a small extra charge but i cant find out at what stage of the process the option for that is?
Quote Nexxo 14th September 2007, 18:35
NHS and some other government employees can get a copy for £17,95 under the Home Licence Scheme.
Quote Buzzons 14th September 2007, 18:38
Nice one from MS there, good un cheep yayz0rs.

Most CompSci courses offer the MSDNAA though, so if you are at uni doing compsci you should be able to get it from there for free

Just don't look forward to running that on Windows XP. It runs beautifully on Vista, but there's something different going on behind the scenes when you run it under XP. I was trying to do some data analysis in Excel 2007 on a friend's computer, and even with a Core 2 Duo and 2GB of RAM, the system was absolutely crawling when I was working with graphs.
Quote oasked 14th September 2007, 19:21
Works fine for me on XP. :)
Quote rowpie 14th September 2007, 19:24
Few years ago when I was at uni I got XP Pro for £10 and Office 2000 Pro for £10 and they were both fully legit and still running to this day on my machine.

Most university computing departments can probably beat this offer but for those in other faculties then this sounds like a very good deal.

Hmmm. I think it's just your friend's computer. I'm running it on a laptop with a Pentium 3 M @1.2GHz with 768Mb RAM and it seems fairly snappy to me. I obviously can't have too many things open at once given the spec of my laptop, but I've had no trouble doing my Maths and Stats coursework. (And now it seems I can go legal, which is nice)
Students in the UK probably want to go here: http://www.theultimatesteal.co.uk/ - the site linked to in the article seems pretty focussed on US students.
Quote fathazza 14th September 2007, 20:17
so....

anyone know where in the order process the option to get the disc version is?

Works fine for both of you, but doing what kind of work? When my complaint arose, I was doing a spreadsheet with about 2500 collected data points in each of ten sheets, all open at the same time and referencing each other. When it came time to graph that data, it was almost unusably slow. Doing the same thing in 2K3, we had no problems.

I couldn't find it myself. There is a £5 option to enable you to download it later, but no option for a cd. Bit of a shame really.

yeah thats all i can see too...

1. Purchase a Licence (Perpetual or Subscription): Upon purchase, you’ll be provided with a genuine Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 product key.
2. Download Office Ultimate 2007: If you don’t want to download, you can also order a physical DVD during the purchase process for a small charge.
3. Enter Your Genuine Product Key: Use the genuine product key to activate Office Ultimate 2007. If already installed, you can still enter the product key.
4. Enjoy your cool new version of Office Ultimate 2007!

Is on one of the other webpages tho, point 2 being the bit in question...

i dont get the £5 to be able to download it later either? Whats the point of paying for a permenant license if you cant download it again after a year normally...

If that doesnt work then you go to the customer support page and then click "How do I start a new order? "
There is then a link which will present you with a list of things you can add including cds and dvds.

Hi,

Has anybody else done this yet? How long are emails with the product key in taking?

My brother paid yesterday and still hasn't had an email with the product key in it.

Thanks

Quote cpu121 25th September 2007, 01:12
Didn't take long for me at all. However, I believe you can find the product key when you log in to your account on the website to check order status.

are you completely sure about that? We can't see a product key on the order page, and when we try to access the invoice it starts spitting out error 500 messages.
Hmmm an email to customer services might be in order!
Quote cpu121 26th September 2007, 14:52
Not entirely - I read about some other people having problems with the email and that's how they seemed to get the key before the email arrived.
Quote Nedsbeds 26th September 2007, 15:06
Oh well, we sent an email off to customer services. They were extremely slow replying but now have the key. Couldn't find it when I logged in though.
Thanks
