Samsung announces first LCD panel with DisplayPort

Meet the new neighbour - Samsung has the first LCD panel to feature a DisplayPort interface and a pretty picture!

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. has announced that it has developed and will begin production of the world's first LCD monitor to feature the DisplayPort interface.

The first screen to feature this next-generation video interface will be a 30-inch LCD with a screen resolution of 2560x1600 with mass production scheduled for the second quarter of 2008.

With the announcement last week of AMD's R7xx series of GPUs supporting the new interface, this could be the death toll ringing for older interfaces such as DVI and dual-link DVI. It's quite unlikely that this interface will replace the newer HDMI interfaces for HDTVs but could potentially rule the computer world as screens and resolutions continue to grow.

Are there already enough display interfaces on the market or should DisplayPort be the industry standard? Let us know what you think over in the forums or in the comments down below.
