The Cosmos case incorporates some neat features, but we're going to have to reserve judgement until the case is released
While we were crawling around the show, we spotted a new concept case that Cooler Master is working on.
Cooler Master claims that the design reduces vibrations (and the resultant noise) caused by components inside the chassis and has also incorporated some neat features too.
Instead of screwing your hard drives into a drive cage, Cooler Master has included six detachable aluminium hard drive modules (or enclosures) complete with thermal pads to optimise the cooling capabilities. In addition, the company has used a patented quick-release 5.25” drive securing mechanism that requires nothing more than a push of a button to release the optical drive installed. It seems an interesting idea, but we’ll have to wait and see how that one works in practice.
Finally, the company’s designers have incorporated a cable management system that will allow users to hide cables behind the motherboard and also in a neoprene ‘gutter’ that should help to reduce cable mess considerably. Again though, we’re going to have to wait and see it in action before we make any final judgement on the usefulness of the system.
We’re told that the company doesn’t expect to release the case until later this year (probably not until after Computex in June, so says Cooler Master) and, because of that, there’s no estimated pricing at the moment.
We've attached some pictures of the case below. Share your thoughts on some of these ideas
in the forums.
the 'gutter' will probably be ripped out by most, and the drive cages are a bit of a disappointment to those of us that prefer to use removable 5.25" modules. the bottom mounted PSU is nice to see, hopefully they can do like the Antec P180 and put a vibration damping cage around it.
Personally I think that the use of only 5.25" slots with a moveable cage was the best thing to happen to the full-tower cases.
That would deffo be case for everyone.
This case looks interesting, I like the handles but not the door (it looks nice but I don't like doors on cases) or window (don't have a window above my car's engine, don't need a window above my CPU).
had to laugh at that reply. dont think ill be lining up to purchase one anytime soon (or later for that matter)
If it's well built, it could be a good case. If they use too much plastic, however... it's gonna be flimsy as hell and more of a liability than an asset. (Hopefully something like the two-material three-ply Antec used for the P180?)
Not really sure I like those rails on the top and bottom, though...
