"Laugh it up, fuzzball!"

OK, so it's not often we see a product and think - "Oh my God, that has to be a case mod." But sometimes, just sometimes, a product appeals to us on so many levels. This is one of those times.

For starters, it's not like you get the Lego Millenium Falcon pre-built - it already requires a heck of a lot of assembly, perfect for modders everywhere. And since it's a hunk of junk that always requires repairs, why not customise it a little? There's great potential for modding in just the kit itself.

Of course, the Falcon is one of the fastest ships in the galaxy, making it perfectly suited to housing a top of the line PC. The Lego replica is three foot long, so getting the kit in there might be a squeeze - but that's why we're modders, right? A few PCI bendy brackets here, a custom shell there - it's gotta be possible to get some Micro ATX kit in there.

Lastly, it has an insane amount of geek appeal. C'mon, who can resist the Millenium Falcon? It's the ultimate symbol of all that is geeky. It's a cobbled together machine that performs admirably, most of the time, but is prone to tantrums - sound like your PC? It certainly sounds like mine!

The kit is on sale very soon for a fabulous $499 / £349, and has over 5000 pieces. Think you can take it on? Here's the store page.

Let us know your modding thoughts over in the forums.

Quote antiHero 13th February 2007, 14:04
Sweet! But how come that 499$ translate into 549€? For a European product!
:'(
Quote oddball walking 13th February 2007, 14:12

My girl bought me a Lego Star Destroyer for Christmas.

And I agree, that would make one heckuva mod project!

There is no ****ing way I would build a PC into one of those... although if I had a second one I might be tempted.

You lucky ****** :p ;)
Quote Techno-Dann 13th February 2007, 17:25
That would be quite the project... If I had the disposable income, I'd do it.
Quote Darv 13th February 2007, 20:18
I've got have one!! It'll dwarf my UCS Star Destroyer.
Quote bluep3ace 13th February 2007, 22:23
i'm telling you, they need to make a bigger star destroyer!!!
Quote samkiller42 13th February 2007, 22:42
Do a scale replica Super Star Destroyer then, that will be big enough to install a watercooling loop as well ;)

Putting the 5000 pieces together would be enough stress without trying to fit all the essentials of a computer inside it. Hell no, I think I'll pass on this one :)

LEGO and PC Hardware a match made in heaven
Quote Stuey 14th February 2007, 03:02
Two things - for that price, the model had better freakin fly!!, and if anyone that doesn't own a collectable/sci-fi store buys this with their own money, they should have "geek" tattooed to their forehead.
Quote Techno-Dann 14th February 2007, 03:08
Well, sign me up for the tattoo, then. I'm already talking with possible sponsors for a Lego Millenium Falcon case mod. I've got the money and skill (and collection) for the Lego side of things, but not the spare cash for the hardware.
Quote Stuey 14th February 2007, 03:57
I've edited my previous post. Getting this Lego model for free for a case mod isn't too bad. It's the guys that would spend the $500 cash for it that are more deserving of the tattoo.

And even to those guys, I mean no offense. Well, no offense as long as you're married or otherwise romantically involved with someone that does not dress up in a Star Trek uniform or Star Wars costume on Halloween (or any other day of the year).

:D :D

Lego Star Destroyer

"Measuring an impressive 37” by 23”, this model dwarfs any LEGO Star Wars™ ship ever produced."

You might be able to squeeze something a little better in here!

Amazing set isn't it?
I thought the Imperial Star Destoyer & the Death Star II were huge at just over 3000 pieces each, but 5000!!!

I've already pre-ordered it, it only ships in October so plenty of time to save up the massive £350. Not sure I'd ever want to mod a PC into something so awesome though, it looks so beautiful as it is, plus the huge price tag...it will just end up on my Lego shelf with all my other Star Wars Lego sets that I own (50 & counting )

In the meantime, you can see which sets I own here but that's just box pictures.

Japan should make a city in a full scale super star destroyer instead of that stupid 2 mile high pyramid.
