Wil enjoys some PSP in his trademark polo shirt.
Changing times means changing faces, and we are certainly living in changing times. Today, I'm announcing that I'm stepping down from the position of Editor in Chief here at
bit-tech, meaning that the site will have a new Editor from April 1.
I've enjoyed six awesome years here at
bit-tech, and seen it grow from a tiny corner of the net where a few of us post some crazy shizzle on a forum, to the biggest and best computer enthusiast publication to come out of Blighty, and one of the most respected enthusiast titles in the world. That's no small thing to have witnessed.
Along the way we've handled all kinds of mods and technology. Macro Black, Orac 3, Dark Blade, not to mention AMD64, Core 2 Duo, and the ever advancing wars between Radeon and GeForce.
We've been featured on CNN, the BBC and in national newspapers around the world. In recent times, we've become a favourite destination for contributors to Digg and Slashdot. Things have never been better in the world of
bit-tech.
bit-tech has some great plans for 2007, and there is going to be an awful lot to get excited about in these pages over the next few months. Tim, Rich, Brett and the rest of the team will be here to take you through the year and bring you the best mods, most in-depth hardware reviews and our take on the latest games. There'll be new features on the site, too - you'll just have to wait and see.
But, with all that said, it's time for me to move on and approach new challenges. Those of you who might be interested in what I get up to next can follow the progress on
my blog, and I'll certainly be checking in here regularly to post in the forum.
In the mean time, I look forward to getting my hands on the final code for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. in the next couple of weeks, gawping at a couple of new mods we have in the pipeline for you, and spending some more time investigating just what Vista is going to mean for us enthusiasts.
Stay tuned, and thanks to all my readers for six rocking years!
Is there going be a huge party? (read: will Will wake up naked tied upside down to a sheep?)
And also, good luck with whatever you end up doing in life.

Who's there to protect me from the headcrabs?!
XD
Sad thing to hear, hope you have fun whatever you find yourself doing.
OMG I'm internets famous! You can see my ear
Hope you have fun where ever you will go next... :D
you mean... your not... Bill Adama?!
:D
Sam
Either way, all the best for the future, you've done a great job here and your recognisable talent will be missed but remebered!
;)

April Fools? ;)
It'll be a sad day, perhaps they can switch the intarnets off for one minute at noon?
Take care and all the best
Giles
Good luck with your future plans.
The downside is that under usual circumstances said management company will install a puppet manager and do absolutely everything it possibly can to maximise profitability, which will become fairly obvious in the first few weeks if my grim suspicion is correct.
This will have course made Mr. Harris spectacularly rich, for which I congratulate him and wish him good luck!
Phil
Ultimately, most of the guys that now work (and have worked) for bit-tech have been avid readers ever since the early days and there is no questioning the time, effort and enthusiasm the current team puts into the site. That passion isn't going anywhere, as far as I'm concerned. It's sad that the success of the site will continue without Wil, but people like fresh challenges.
As much as I'd love to explain how that's not happened, I'll leave it to Tim above...but trust me when we say there is no puppet government, no combine benefactors, and no sale of bit-tech. We are what we were, just sadly without Wil. Wish him well, but let's save the conspiracies for the FBI and the aliens, eh? ;)
Any idea who's taking over as editor BTW?
Well if hes half as good as Will was, then we will be lucky
We pride the home-grown bit-tech spirit above all else....why else would we post our job offerings in our forums? :D
2nd: Looks a bit like Tim's first on the 'I-might-become-the-next-EiC'-list. At least when judging by presence on the forum.
I blaim teh garden gnomes and cheese!!!!!
the best of luck on your future endeavors Wil !
Apart from that I like this site as it's very good for project logs :)
good luck :)
Good Luck :D
Will you possibly be writing some freelance stuff for bit sometimes? :p
Sad to see you go, would like to know where to though! :)
bahahaha :D :? you crazy man!
:'(
anyway i guess change is never a really bad thing, but wil you wil be missed here.
I think you've done a brilliant job as Editor, Wil, and I wish you all the best in your future endeavours.
Hell, with your rep as a tech journalist, I could see you writing anywhere you wanted. ;)
I wish you all the best with whatever you´r doing next and I think I speak for all when I say that I hope you stop by from time to time for a lil chitchat!
Good luck in your next job / further life Wil!
So whats going to happen now?
Ladies and Gentlemen...Would you please raise your drinks and dremels to Wil Harris
Well apart from Wil's frappuccino I don't know where else you've been, so No.
Why not try starting a poll with same question?!?
/memories of the bit-tech staff/mods pissup in Birmingham where I saw my very first iPod, owned by 'mrhaz' :)
I already did.
Remember?
;)

French saying thanks for what you have done with the whole BT team.
BTW, april 1, how curious....I wonder if...
However, I'm super-duper curious as to what your next endeavour will be. Do tell when the time is right.
All the best my friend!
And to those who remain at the helm of bit-tech: Stay strong and continue to make this excellent site even better. While I am sometimes critical in my posts, trust me when I say it's only in the interest of sharpening the sword, so to speak. This is a great tech fan's haven on the internet.
Remember? Years of therapy helped me forget. Til now.
All the best for the future.
Thanks for the spectacular leadership on this boat... I've loved coming here, learning and exchanging ideas....
We'll be watching 4 ya!
;)
GOOD LUCK
You can also see my kitchen window... :D
Good luck for the future Wil!
Good luck with your next project.
Hope the future serves you well.
I remember when you first became Editor...These six years have gone fast!
What can I say? Whatever it is that made you decide to leave, I hope it works out for you. Given the passion you've displayed so far in Bit-Tech, I can only assume it's something you really want to do, and will excel at. We all haev to move on at some point if we're to acheive our best.
The very best of luck!
;)
Anyways, it's sad to see you go, Wil. I had some crazy ideas that you gave some serious thought to but were lost in the business of your work. I wish you the best and I know that you wouldn't leave bit-tech if it wasn't to better yourself. Cheers mate.
