Eden - where silence is paradise....

VIA has introduced a couple of new ultra low voltage processors, forming part of its Eden range of processors.

The new chips come in at 1GHz and 1.5GHz. The slower chip runs at a phenomenal 3.5W maximum, whilst the faster comes in at a not-exactly-toasty 7.5W. Compare this to the current high-end chips from AMD and Intel, which come in at 110W+, and you can see the difference!

VIA's C7 / Eden processors are great for embedded applications, and we all know what great platforms they make for modding, when combined with a Mini-ITX motherboard. We saw a beblu system containing a Mini-ITX board and VIA processor recently, and suggested it was just a mite too slow - with a 1.5GHz chip, we would suspect that performance would be rather nice.

The new chips are based on the 'Esther' core, and also contain VIA's Padlock security features, making sure that data is locked up safely.

We look forward to seeing some mod projects featuring these very soon! In the meantime, why not drop your thoughts on the new processors, and the VIA Mini-ITX platform, over in the forums?
