Question:

I see 2 mPCIe ports.

Are they two separate channels, or a one-or-the-other deal?

@AmEv, the full-size one doubles up as the m-sata port, but to the best of my knowledge it's one lane per slot, Intel are also providing [if i've read it right] a SSD and a wifi card with the board so both slots will be full
Combatus 24th June 2013, 02:10 Quote
You can use both slots - ie a WiFi module and SSD will work at the same time.

Sorry I should rephrase my comment about the power button! It does indeed have the usual front panel headers, but if you just want to add a length of acrylic to the on-board power button as well that's fine.

I was actually thinking USB 3.0, but...

Not that I'm expecting to win, but whoever has a 3d printer, be expected to be nagged upon for parts.

Also, the stuff I'm finding in the SketchUp model has d 2 HDMI, instead of 1 HDMI, and 1 TB.

Sorry for the double-post, but I just uploaded the OEM version of the board to the warehouse....

Just submited my design :).

As previously mentioned we've moved a long way since the humble floppy disk (of which i still use on a daily bases due to old CNC machines)
Phame 27th June 2013, 16:29 Quote
Submitted my idea.. :)

:D -Gooooooooooooooooood.
@Combatus - I used the switch jumpers in my design too. I like being able to put the switch where I want it.
Pranja 28th June 2013, 01:18 Quote
I used NUC model without Thunderbolt-can I submit that?

Of course, it will be added if I start making of case. :)
Yaka 28th June 2013, 18:33 Quote
Anyone know if it's possible to use the pcie connector to hook up another msata drive?
Pranja 28th June 2013, 22:45 Quote
Submitted. :)
Boorach 29th June 2013, 11:14 Quote
Although I love this competition I prefered the open feel of the Raspberry Pi one. Closed applications with only the top five being chosen and published means the masses will miss out on some great ideas.
Cheapskate 2nd July 2013, 20:33 Quote
@Boorach - I suspect we will get to see a lot of designs. Judging by the names in the thread, There should be some stiff competition too.
-This will be a looooong month, though.

No worries!

That's fine, so long as your final case can house the D33217CK board which has a thunderbolt port ;)

AFAIK the two ports are identical but the lower one is half-height only and meant for WiFi modules which will be included in the competition pack.

We'll likely publish all the designs so everyone can take a peek - I've received quite a few so far so it's going to be tough to choose! We'll likely have more open competitions, but the closed ones we've seen over the years have been pretty awesome too.
Asouter 6th July 2013, 17:39 Quote
Sorry guys but I'm going to bow out of this one. I have too much on my plate right now and can't dedicate the time that this and the sponsors deserve.
Good luck to the lucky five builders, Please please please show us something original
Waynio 7th July 2013, 10:29 Quote
Had a last minute tweak to my entry & just uploaded it, I used the wrong NUC model but I'll be able to tweak it quick & easy enough if it manages to get that far, looking forward to seeing the others. :D

Shame Asouter won't be in though.
Maki role 7th July 2013, 13:20 Quote
Well I've submitted mine, this is looking to be a very intense competition judging by the entrants!
Nagby 7th July 2013, 16:48 Quote
hi, i'm the one who did this sketchup model http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=3fd35233d55b7b63141d6aaf02bbb74&prevstart=0
maybe some of you used it, but it isn't rightly scaled and it isn't the right NUC either
it can give you an idea but don't take it too precisely

i'm not able to mod myself but i had some ideas that i shared here http://grabcad.com/library/nuc-case-competition-1

can't wait to see your submissions ^^
by the way, where will they be?
Ace_finland 8th July 2013, 10:00 Quote
When will the top 5 designs be chosen? Submitted but feel like i should have made it a bit more detailed :s
Cheapskate 9th July 2013, 04:14 Quote
I came here to see how things were going. -Didn't want to hear Asouter had opted out.:(
Waynio 9th July 2013, 19:55 Quote
Thanks Nagby your model was a huge help, will be easy to tweak if it gets picked. :)

Antony said deadline is 14th July, says 7th on article so must have been extended so still time for people to submit a design. :)
Combatus 10th July 2013, 23:49 Quote
14th is correct - I've just amended the article! Sorry bout that - so many dates were flying around at the start as Intel was gathering all the parts for the kits! If anyone wants to re-submit with some tweaks feel free.

I cannot believe A) how many entries we've had and B) some of the designs! Great stuff!

4 days to go! Will likely be a few days after 14th obviously as we'll need to sift through the entries and pick five. There was me hoping for twenty or so... it's already double that!
Maki role 16th July 2013, 17:53 Quote
So now that the deadline's come and gone, any ideas when we'd be likely to see the finalists announced? Given the high calibre of the entrants I can imagine it must be really difficult to choose which ones go through. Really looking forward to seeing what everybody came up with.
Waynio 19th July 2013, 03:46 Quote
Well Antony confirmed 40+ entries with time for more, yippee. :D

That many would be difficult to narrow down to 5.

So I'll guess later today hopefully. :)
