Metal Micke

Micke spent the entire 4-day show at the Colorcase.se booth, and was engraving anything to order with his Dremel. If you are not familiar with the process of case engraving with a Dremel, have a quick read of our Engraving - A Modders "How To" article. You can also read Micke's previous engraving worklog articles: Project AVP and his Fatal1ty case.

The number of people asking for his expert input was huge, and there was a hefty queue all weekend. Here's a quick sample of his work.

The Dremel wasn't out of Micke's hand for long. In fact, he told me he managed to smoke just four cigarettes all weekend - a testament to just how busy he was, since he normally smokes at least a pack a day! Here you can see his Dremel rig that allows him complete freedom when engraving. What you can't see is the intravenous drip in his left arm feeding him Red Bull to keep him going. On the right is a World of Warcraft Tauren.

A quite evil-looking dragon on a case side-panel and an engraved Steelpad. Frag me? No, frag you, buddy!

An appropriately wintery side panel - a snowflake - and an evil USB external hard disk enclosure. We wonder what data might be on it!

Icemats look pretty darn good when engraved on the underside. Another funky snowflake (right).

Cranking up the difficulty a notch or three, here is a collection of various fan-art. Who can resist the Quake III Tux, the Linux Penguin?

Editor's note: there is a friendly rivalry in Swedish modding circles between Micke and Magnus Persson aka Wolverine, creator of the Star Wars Lian-Li engraving. Magnus was also present at DreamHack, and since everyone at bit-tech just wants to see really cool mods, it is only fair that we include some photos of Wolverine's work as well.

The design and detail is impressive, but it's work reminding people that these four cases were prepared ahead of the show to be used as part of Antec's booth. It's fair to say each case is many hours of solid engraving.

When you have a line of rowdy gamers queued up to get their sidepanel engraved on the spot like Micke did, you need to limit things to line-art. We're not going to choose a winner: both of these Swedes are very talented. Top work guys.
