Glad it is working for you. Can you post your powerstrip settings for Mystique (screen shots as you did in your first post).
btw, how is the image quality with mystique? Is the text legible?
thanks
srini
Sure.
It should work almost instantly once you select the Arcade option though, just so you know. Text legible? I'd say to an extent. You can read the type, I wouldn't suggest it though. VGA mod is waaaay better than S-Video or video.
I just updated the pics. Sorry, but I noticed something was wrong so I fixed it.
There's an easy way to use these settings.
Just copy these codes and paste them in using the Paste clipboard button.
The first code goes in custom resolutions, then the second one goes in advanced timing options.
everyone is so crazy about these PS1 lcd mods....why doesnt anyone raise a stir about a laptop screen mod. I ahve a 12.1" old laptop that i could scrap for the screen....and would work perfectly for a side panel mod. These old laptops can be bought dirt cheap (under 100)

First, the PSone screens are amazing considering the price they can be bought at versus their functionality, and secondly, , because their are a few threads dedicated to the laptop screen topic. Sure, you can buy a laptop screen for under $100, but what are you going to do with it if you don't have a compatible controller board? Laptop screens don't run on the same type of inputs that a normal monitor does. The controller board alone can run you up another $200 to $500. Just for the functionality of a small screen. Granted, the PSone screen is smaller, but look at the price/functionality ratio. These screens already come with a great controller board. If you want a larger screen for a side panel mod, then it would be wise to think about purchasing a LCD flat panel with a cracked bezel or something, and gut it.
<Sorry if I sounded I little harsh, my brother is home for college and treated me like crap the whole Thanksgiving break>
Adamjones is completely right. Only one out of a thousand laptop screens will work directly on a VGA input signal, so the chance that you have just that model which works is very unlikely, you could better just buy a 2nd hand flatpanel...
If you really want to attach a laptop lcd to a vga input, you will need a controller and a lot of experience in electronics.
By the way, I hope to receive my Piranha Extreme PSone LCD screen tomorrow :D
For some rreason, windows wont boot if I have the screen attatched (I am using s-video).
If I wait to connect it until the first windows splash screen, then it comes on perfectly, before that and the boot process is halted.
I have an X800 PRO VIVO modded to X800XT PE.
I even flashed back to the original BIOS to see if that helped, but no go.
I have tried my main monitor on both the VGA and DVI Port(with adapter), but STILL no joy.
And yes, I tried waiting aa few minutes to see if the screens would come on once XP startes, but it never started (no startup noise from XP)

Anyone else with this?
BTW, its an official sony screen.

Have you tried hooking up something else to S-Video and booting up?
I just picked up 4 of these PSONE LCDs for $35 a pop at Toys R Us in the States as I figured at that price it was would prove a worthy educational process to bust them open.
Of course now I find this site and think it would be much better to do something usefull with my screens rather than just break it to see what's inside.
The main use I am looking for is to hook up to an XBox via component cable.
I have followed along the VGA path and don't know that an XBOX VGA box would cut it for driving one of these. Also I don't think I could access the timings via xbox.
That leaves standard connections and of the bunch obviously component is the way to go as it can still get me 480i resolution.
What I would like to know is can anyone help or point me in the right direction to wire up some component inputs? And is there any reason they wouldn't work fine just plug in straight from an Xbox component pack?
In the end this may end up in my car as a DVD and game player and it would be sweet to have HD level displays for those long road trips.
Thanks for any help, and if I should have posted this somewhere else or made my own thread, apologies, I kept getting erros that I Was not allowed to access pages to make new posts.
BTW I have a 3 RCA to headphone adapter that came with my Archos Multimedia jukebox, no matter how I hook it up I cannot get a video source to show on my PSONE LCD. I have tried 2 seperate ones, they both power on, but no picture ever comes.... any ideas on why that would be? I may not be trying to use all these component style and it would be nice to have an easy access to SVIDEO input or something.
I have had no luck finding an extension cable. So the thought occured to me... why no bypass the trap and simply solder from the ribbon cable onto the board with say some IDE cable or something...
This seemed a simple solution until you remember those leads on the ribbon cable are pretty small (but definitely solderable) and the ones in the trap are even smaller...
But wait! If you look just above the trap and follow traces you will see only about a dozen or so of those pins actually connect to anything!! Much easier job now... but wait again, above almost each one of those is a huge solder pad! This makes tapping in even easier!
So my idea now is to take some IDE cable strip it down to the right number of wires and solder onto those pads and up to the leads on the ribbon cable and have a nice 12-18 inch extension!
Also of interest that I haven't really seen mentioned anywhere, if you look right on the PCB at near the trap for the ribbon cable, the board is labled with what each pin does... Perhaps if someone knows more about video signals than I do you can figure out if all the connections are actually necessary, the less wires after all the easier.

As far as I'm aware of, the VGA mod only works on certain video cards.
- Matrox G100/G200
- Matrox Mystique
- ATI Radeon 7000 or better?
- Gigabyte Maya 9000 pro 64mb (Works with DX9 / Catalyst 3.6)
- Geforce 2 MX (need csync composer)
- Onboard nForce Video .Asus A7N266VM (need csync composer nForce 2.41 drivers)
As for the other one, I think you'd pretty much be stuck with using the A/V plug with your XBOX...

I really find that hard to believe. From what I've been reading on some of the carmp3 forums, although they are over my head when it comes to the csync composer, but to my understanding it must be running at 15kHz. This is the part I'm not understanding. The difference in Vert Refresh and Horz Freq... I've read so much now, my mind is bubbleing. But, I'm at work now and about to leave to work on it somemore. If i make any progress, I'll follow through..

Yeah a lot of the people on that forum were using a PAL LCD, so I'm not sure if it applies... You're right, the problem is setting the refresh rates and I remember reading about using resistors to fix that problem, but that may still be for the PAL LCDs.

Do you mean the flat strip holding the LCD to the controller?
Yeah it would be a 6 inch 30 pin ribbon cable and a ziff socket that would let you clamp the 6 inch cable onto the existing cable. This would let you put the unit farther from the PCB. I think I will try making a post about it so it's jnot just at the tail end of this one.
hello
i'm about to buy a psone lcd screen to make a diy projector.
and i just read this topic about the mod and i also read on other places that the resolution of the lcd is 320x240 but with the vga mod done we get 640x480.
Now my questions is.. i'll want to plug the lcd sometimes to my computer sometimes to a dvd/vcr..
i guess without modding i can with no problem connect to a dvd/vcr but the resolution will be 320x240.. with the vga mod i'll also be able to connect the lcd to a dvd/vcr or theres some cables that needs to be replaced and it means i'll only be able to have a vga input to the lcd?
Anyone please explain me a bit about this because i'm a bit confusing about this.
Thanks in advance
The VGA mod still lets you plug into DVD/VCR provided you have the right cables. If you have a video card that has RCA,comp, or s-video out, you don't even need to do the VGA mod, but the quality will be less than if you did. I think the LCD is a bit higher than 320x240. Don't do the VGA mod if you don't have the right video card and/or know how to make the csync composer. Good luck on your projector.

thanks for your advice, i guess i'll stay without the mod then.
only if i look on the image and it looks really bad then i'll try it..
just for curiosity what is the csync composer?
So are you saying that if you do have the WRONG video card you can make the "csync composer" and make it work anyway? I posted a few threads above, and now the laptop and the psone LCD (with the VGA mode) is just sitting on my work bench collecting dust. If I make the csync circuit could I make this work?
THanks
