OK, so I have a LCD wired up and running. Now, I can not have csync or interlacing checked in powerstrip to get an image. But I do have to turn off tiling. but as soon as I do that I can not play games like counter strike. My main monitor goes out of sync.

Main video card is ATI Radeon 9800 pro 256 meg, secondary card that has the LCD connected is an ATI Radeon 7000. Any thoughts ?

Just thought id post pictures of my PSone LCD, as it isnt the offical one, it is the one made by Competition Pro, commonly available on eBay.

a warning to people wanting to do the VGA Mod to it, it uses two circuit boards, and a different design (obviously) to the offical one, so do what i have done, and hook it up by SVideo (which is what i intended to do before buying it)

here are the pics:

Warning: Stupidly Large Images Linked!

as this is being used outside my pc case, i have made a wooden block that it screws to. it will be going inside a PC at some point :)

ok, im stuck...
ive read most of this now massive thread, got a lil confused, and a large headache...
ive pimped up me screen, its connected by s-video-rca-3.5mm to me gfx card geforce 6600gt... problem comes when i try getting the screen to turn on... i havent touched anything on the pcb itself it is as new, and there is no power gettin to the screen, never once had any flicker either before or after taking it apart etc.... the monitor is detected in windows through me driver, so i reckon it should be showing somin.
i was wondering if ive missed somin, or i just have a dead lcd/backlight....
im using the power adaptor that came witht the screen not the cigy method, so i figure it should work fine!
i have a pal screen, and s-video connection, if anyone coudl give me a hand id be over the moon :)
cheers, steve

Hi,

I have made the vga mod for the psone and it works as seconday screen (extending windows desktop)with my ATI Radeon 9250, using powerstrip.
I tried the dcc mod with the 24lc21 chip, but it does not worked (continue investigating).

I would like to use my psone screen with my carputer. The carputer would only have the psone screen connected. So my question is: Is it posible to use the psone screen as main monitor? or as seconday monitor (not extending windows desktop).

I request excuses, my English is not very good

Hi,
My english isn't good either.
Vincente, do you have the original PSone LCD?
I've got the Competition Pro.
I wan't to use VGA, but I guess it isn't possible:(.
Anyway, i've got a few left .. but I only need 1.

Well, as most of you should know, I am attempting a new mod.

It is very similair to this:

>>PSOne LCD Mod<<

My mod, however, varies in a few ways.

1) I am not using the standard, Sony PSOne LCD.

I am using this type: (Produced by Intec)
http://www.ncsx.com/2004/ncs060704/SOTD4/ptc_psone_ft.jpg

2) I am going to use the included RCA input module, and use my S-Video to Analog converter that came with my 9800pro(Although I now use a x1800xt 512) to transfer the video from my videocard, or just use the RCA input for my Dreamcast. (I hope to make it hot-swapable)

3) I am not going to use external power for the LCD, I plan on using a Molex (4-Pin) power cable to power the LCD. The problem for now, is that a Molex cable runs at 12v. The included AC-DC adapter (For car use.) has a transformer in it that converts the 12v source to a controlled 7.5v @ 2amps.

4) I plan on mounting the LCD in two un-used 5 1/2" drive bays, using the plastic covers to mount the LCD, and store the circuitboards that the LCD uses in a plastic box in the bays. This shouldn't be the hard part.

What I need to know:

Can I simply take apart the car-adapter and imput the +,-, and ground wires straight to the transformer circuit? Will that work? I don't wanna blow another PSU. >.<

-Rex

*Sorry if that is redundant in any way, but I copied it directly from my own forums, http://www.gigayetti.com .

Is that an alright way to get power? I really wanna know before I screw up my LCD.

Hi Jossie16,

I own then original Sony PSOne LCD. Bought on eBay.

Here are some pictures from my WIP....

I am testing just using the 12v lines from the PSU, but I needed an old (K6) mobo to ground the line for the PSU to fire. >.<

Tell me what you think!

Hi, A car adapter will transfor unregulated 12V DC to AC, and then transform it to a regulated 7.5V DC.
I think you can safely connect your PSU to the Car adapter.

I have one question...
I'm using POWERSTRIP with LCD PSONE , and i would like to know about the resolution..
It's 640x480 and the Color Quality is 256 Colors??
There's any way to get HiColor ( 16Bit ) in this LCD??

Thanks a lot!
ElThomsono 28th May 2006, 03:17 Quote
The res. (from memory) should be 320x240, and isn't 256 IIRC, I'm sure it can do 16bit.

However that's from memory and it is 3am....

Well, I am about to give up with the "super easy" way of going the S-Video method. I want to do the VGA regardless, but the s-video should just work as I have read all over these forums and others.

I have twin 6800GTs, and neither (not in SLI mode) will put an image on my origional psone lcd. When i use the Force TV option it did indeed pick it up as a 7xx X 5xx monitor, M/NTSC. But all I see is a black display on the LCD. I used a S-Video to RCA adaptor, and then RCA to 3.5mm that came with the cards. I have tried multiple settings and have gotten nowhere with every combination of resolutions or likewise. I threw the composite at my TV and it was able to display just fine, although in black and white instead of color which was odd ( i had color once before with this method). Anyway, I am at a total loss for my problems. I will try to locate another S-video machine I can test with, but so far I have just gotten more and more irritated by this. Any ideas where I can try next?

One more thing, I am only running an LCD as my primary monitor with no true VGA on my system at present. I have read things relating to needing a vga device going in order to drive a psone lcd at first with s-video or vga, is that true?

Im sure it is something stupid that is wrong, but my head is starting to hurt

i was just wondering i found a used dc 7.5v connecter with the plug to the wall cut off, will it be able to convert the 12v from the comp to the 7.5 i need or will i definately need a car adapter to do the job

CUT OFF BIT -----|BULGED BIT|------ADAPTER TO LCD
user0001 12th June 2006, 07:08 Quote
If it plugged into the wall, then it wont hookup to a PSU.

cool, thanks for the fast reply, so do i need the official sony one or will any psone car adapter do?

if theres an alternative to the sony one can u please post it
brinx38 13th June 2006, 03:23 Quote
Or you could make one of these to power the unit for free (Middle Picture)

All you need is an old graphics card (prefferably non working) and cut off the VGA port. You can then connect the PSOne board to it..
When you're done, just use a regular monitor cable to connect it back to the second portt on your GeForce card (you will need the DVI adapter)

I had to resort to this since Windows wouldn't start up with the Matrox and my 7800GT

You will also need the car adaptor or build a http://www.silverfur.com/Upload/Personal/schematic2.jpg" target="_blank">power supply of your own if you do not want to route power cables thru your case...

See pics Below..

does this mod work with a x1900xtx with the dvi adapter or a vaio r505dl without the c-sync mod? thanks!

hey i got the eeprom thingy installed, i have a ntsc lcd and used two 47k ohm resistors for it... wasnt' sure if i needed the 10k one...

but ne ways the problem i have... the image on my screen is like stretched vertically 2x or 3x the normal height and looped around. it looks like this:http://iamawesomer.com/upload/CIMG2453.JPG

does anyone know how to resolve this issue? thanks!
brinx38 21st June 2006, 05:56 Quote
Mine initially boots up like that, but as soon as Powerstrip loads, it sorts itself out..
I am using 2x 47K resistors. I guess it depends on what you write to the EDID.
I was unable to write anything to my EDID since I pulled the chip from an old monitor..
DragonGC 21st June 2006, 06:38 Quote
i am using powerstrip and i am able to write to the EEPROM (you should be able too, try shorting the pins like in the guide if it says write protected).

i don't know what to change the edid too, does anyone know what to write to it? and how can i modify the powerstrip settings to get it not stretched vertically? thanks!

if anyone wants to help me on AIM my sn is xDragonGCx. i really want to get this thing working... >.< THANKS EVERYONE

DragonGC 21st June 2006, 10:04 Quote
ok, well i got this working on my desktop (thanks brinx38!), but i cannot get this working the same way on my laptop...

on my desktop, i can set the custom resolution to 640x480i(Arcade) and set the refresh-rate in catalyst control panel to 30, but on my laptop i can't get to the custom resolutions, and i don't have catalyst control panel. any ideas? thanks!
AJB2K3 21st June 2006, 17:33 Quote
Linux just seams to stick to the resolution it was installed at.
I have to manualy edit xorg.conf for monitors.
Never mind IBM actualy provided the answre to my query
http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/linux/library/l-playscreen/index.html
Of all places i would never of expected IBM to solve this.
