thank you, that s right i have to take off this sticker for a better look ;)

to obtain the same rust effect all over the parts it is just necessary to respect the times between the differents coats of paint ;)

just 2 things :
1. why not go all the way make it like the hl2 logo totally or radioactive or something along the lines? not that it`s not good looking (`cause it #@%$#@ right is!) just to make it more along the lines of the mod.

of course it would be nice but ... I just like it like that :)

2. was the plastic grill painted because it seems different in the first pic as the grill then the rest of them (different coloring i mean - darker orange) or is it just the lighting?

it is just due to the flash

oh man, oh man - this just keeps gettin` better! mod on

Holy S***!!!
This is looking amazing. that fan grill is one of the most inspired attempts i've seen, truly awesome.

How did you achieve that bullet hole effect? is it just a vinyl stickers or is the perspex actually cracked around the holes?

the bullets holes were make with a dremel and the cracks around are lettered on the other side of plastic

The grill looks really good like this without the rust on it. It gives more contrast than after it is painted. Kinda appears that it is a different type of metal (Maybe stainless steel). It would look really good if it was "tarnished" just a little bit but not rusted. The rust looks awesome, even on this piece, but just thought it might help break things up a bit if you had some contrast between the two different types of metal. Just my .02 cents. I still think it looks great painted and I am sure you have many more awesome things in mind!

Nice work....
One idea, actualy a couple... Ha ha ha! You could take some of the metal parts and then gently punch some bullet holes through it and then somehow use your dremel to cut some acid looking burns through some spots with little rivulets(sp) like flowing acid down some spots... and then some thermite burned and fragmentation grenade semi impaled shrapnel hanging out parts inside.... make the lighting flicker and stutter like some scenes where the lighting is messed up!
Hope these ideas help and Get 'er done!!!

I see what you re thinking about, but I have some good others plans to give a contrast with the rust of the case ;)

I see that your brain is warming like mine :D

I like the flicker lightning idea, I didn't want to put other lights than UV into this project but now... well I don't know may be ... for the acid I plan to do something very special, but I haven't found the stuff I need for it now ;)

or u can make a new sticker in relation to HL ! or a "born to frag" sticker

few strikes of ideas when reading this awesome project:
- a fan-bus with small valves instead of classical rheo
- red digits to display cpu temp with "scientifical instrument" look

does some part of paint/rust get off when u touch it ?

Someone has a good imagination. :) Your work is awesome so far. Keep it up!
Quote Skaal-tel 27th February 2004, 20:51
Very nice work on the grills! I think that bullet hole one might cause some whistling sort of noise though as air passes through it... You might want to switch back to the other one..
Unless you undervolt the fan, in which case, nevermind ;)

I haven't try it yet but I dont think so because the most part of the airflow will come from the space between the case and the rust panel and not a lot by the holes

here is a pic to better show you what I mean

Seriously, seriously cool! Best paint job i've seen in a while. Goes to show that when somethings done properly it really can look the part.

Quote r3men4nt 28th February 2004, 01:24
I think something that would really tie it together would be to paint the fan and make it also look rusted of sorts, or atleast paint it because that sticker sticks out.
