Since when has £70 been low cost for a headset?

You want low cost you get something like a plantonics gamecom 380 which has a good mic, decent sound and costs < £20. For £70 I expect something pretty special.

Fair point. Was thinking in terms of 'not premium' though clearly 'mid-range' is a better general term so I have changed this. Also, the price I'd been working to originally was closer to £60. At the time of publishing the price had crept up.

£60 gets you a pair of Roccat Kave 5.1 Surround Sound headset. just picked a pair up and so far I'm pretty impressed, yes musically not the greatest, but for games they're awesome!

Ordered a Steelseries V2 Siberia headset yesterday. Guess it's headset season.

Both use standard 3.5mm jack plugs (4-pole rather than stereo) but via the use of magic the headset knows which is which.
I think magic is pushing it a bit. Fairly simple bit of wiring.
